I still remember the day. It was mid-June going into my freshman year of high school, and I had just gotten a concussion at a summer basketball camp when my mom told me the news. My first nephew was here! It’s insanely hard to believe that was 18 years ago, and he is now a senior! This Columbus, Nebraska, senior boy session was full of laid back vibes and will always hold a special place in my heart!
Senior year is always special in its own right.
You’ve waited years to get to the top of the hierarchy ladder, and it’s full of huge monumental moments that you will remember for the rest of your life. Senior sports, state, homecoming, prom, bonfires, senior retreats, graduation, you name it! The year sure goes fast, but there’s something wistful when you ask someone about their senior year of high school that I hope you don’t take for granted in the moment.
I remember at my senior high school graduation when our principal looked at us all sitting in our graduation chairs and told our class to take a second and look around. This was the last time that we would all be in the same room together for the rest of our lives. To most people, that statement might not mean much, but in small town Nebraska where you had grown up with the same kids since preschool, it was always one that stuck!
To think that we would be going on our individual paths from that moment on was mind boggling, but that statement has held true for the past 14 years which may be one reason why I’ve never forgotten it.
TO THE SENIOR
Eli, your session was unbelievably fun! I love how you incorporated the activities you were most passionate about which also make up a huge portion of who you are. You have grown up to be such an incredibly kind, humble and hard working kid, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!
I know you’re a senior this year, but I think on some level I’ll always remember when you were three-years-old running toward me down the long hallway at my high school. You spent a lot of your early years cheering me on at different activities in high school and college, and I’m so excited to continue to return the favor!
Your senior session in Columbus, Nebraska, will always be one of my favorites! Congratulations on your senior year! Soak it all in while you can before as Grandpa Kreikemeier would say, “You enter the real world and start working for the rest of your life!” 😉 ENJOY!
